Many people assume that they will have to sacrifice taste to eat foods that are "sustainable" or "organic."

It's the other way around.

At CocoaVino, we learned a long time ago that food actually tastes better — much better — when the ingredients are sourced from regional, sustainable and, if possible, organic producers. Sustainably produced ingredients are the starting point of every chocolate and confection we make.

In our business practices, too, we're always making conscious choices and looking for the greenest option — from using eco-friendly cleaners in our kitchen to purchasing 100% wind-generated electricity for our facilities and packing orders in biodegradable materials.

ORGANIC, REGIONAL, SUSTAINABLE

Food nourishes and sustains us, and it should be produced in a way that nourishes and sustains both the land it grows from and the farmer who tends it. That's the heart of sustainability and the heart of CocoaVino's approach to sourcing ingredients.

We use a mix of certified organic and fair trade ingredients and ingredients that are regionally grown and sustainably produced (and often practicing organic).  If we can buy it locally and support small-scale farms in the Northeast (apples, pumpkin, honey), we do.  If we can't get something regionally (chocolate, citrus, figs), we choose the organic option.

FAIR TRADE

All the chocolate we use is both organic and fair trade certified. We also use other fair trade certified ingredients to flavor our chocolates, like the espresso in our Roman Holiday bonbon. And our Hyggelig Hot Chocolate contains 100% fair trade ingredients, from the cocoa powder and dark chocolate to the sugar and even the cardamom.

Fair trade standards guarantee farmers a fair price for their goods and safe labor conditions.

100% WIND POWER

All of the energy we use in our kitchen and offices is wind generated.  Purchasing clean, renewable energy is another way we're trying to minimize our footprint.

ENVIRONMENTALLY SENSITIVE PACKAGING

All of our printed materials, from box wraps to inserts, are printed with soy-based inks on Forest Stewardship Council certified papers. We ship in boxes made from 100% recycled materials, and pack with biodegradable packing peanuts. The peanuts, which are 100% cornstarch, dissolve quickly in water and are compostable.
